What is rekeying?

Most door locks are pin-tumbler locks. Inside the cylinder is a row of small pins cut to match your key. When we rekey a lock, we replace those pins with a new set and cut new keys to match. The lock looks and works the same, but every old key stops working.

It's the fastest and most affordable way to take back control of who can get into your home or business.

When to rekey your locks

• You just moved in. You never know how many copies of the old keys are out there.
• You lost a key or had your keys stolen.
• A roommate, tenant or employee moved out and didn't return every key.
• After a break-in, if the locks still work but you want peace of mind.

Rekey or replace?

If your locks work smoothly and you're happy with them, rekeying is usually the better deal. Replace a lock if it's worn out, damaged, sticking or low-security, or if you want to upgrade to a smart lock or a high-security lock. We'll tell you honestly which makes sense. Rekeying starts at $50, plus our $25 service call. The final price depends on how many locks you have and what kind they are.
